it's always darkest before the dawn, Is it bad that I'm legitimately nervous for Glee tonight?

We know that they’re going to start tackling the Karofsky redemption storyline.  And, if they handle it well, it has the potential to be one of the best, most moving storylines on the show.

But given how every other storyline ever has been handled, I’m nervous that they’ll mess this up.  They won’t delve deep enough into his past or his current life at school.  It’ll just be glossed over as an attempt to touch the issue of teen suicide (which I’m sure they won’t handle with enough sensitivity) and not as an attempt to redeem a character with a lot of potential.

“they’re going to start tackling the Karofsky redemption storyline”

Um. What?

The redemption storyline is pretty much over. I mean, yeah, probably the suicide attempt will be used as a some sort of emotionally manipulative trick to make people who still dislike him feel bad for him. But to say that his redemption starts with suicide? So how do you call being part of Bullywhips, honestly regreting his actions and evolving into better person, that already took place? Those things don’t have any redeeming quality for you?

I’m not trying to start anything, but you’re choice of words kind of chafes me. I think there’s something wrong with suggesting that his redemption can start only with such tragic event like suicide attempt, and all his amazing development we witnessed so far doesn’t matter.

(Although I agree that this storyline will be rushed and they’ll gloss over everything that is important.)

I’m sorry if you misunderstood me, I by no means meant that Dave’s suicide is what will bring about his redemption.  And I’m really sorry if I came across as thinking that way.  Yes, the writers have started preparing us for Dave’s redemption and have been since the end of season 2.

But now is when they’re going to attempt to make it an actual storyline rather than just something in the background.  The Bullywhips and his conversation with Kurt in Prom Queen were really brushed aside with little thought.  To those of us who care, it was the start of his redemption story.  But it was never given enough attention for it to be an actual storyline on the show.

I feel like tonight is when they’re going to make it something they want us to care about.  And I just really hope they handle it carefully.  Because right now, the writers are making it seem like the only way redemption can be taken seriously is if Dave attempts to commit suicide.  And, as you said, that’s wrong.

I’m pretty sure we can talk about two separate storylines. Redemption and suicide.

I agree that they should have spent more time on redeeming Dave, and make it an actual storyline, not a sloppy wrap-up to bullying storyline. But glee sucks. This show never dwells on meaningful, important storylines, so I doubt it will be brought up. There’s simply not enough time in the episode to come back to his redemption, besides it’ll seem pretty random for casual viewers who know the already reformed, season three Dave. I think tonight will be the last time we see Dave on glee anyway, so they’ll just use him to touch a serious issue and then come back to singing about love triangles.
